Description
Fine Quality S-11a Wreath Cent
1793 1C Wreath Cent--Vine and Bars--VG8 NGC. Fine 12 EAC. S-11a, Die State I, High R.4. The Vine and Bars edge device distinguishes the S-11a from its 11b and 11c counterparts. Only 1,500 to 2,000 pieces are believed to have been struck (on June 29 according to Walter Breen). The 11a is often found struck on a defective planchet, as is the case with this coin. A delicate planchet defect is located in the right obverse field at 4 o'clock, and there are several scratch-like planchet depressions on the lower reverse. A tiny rim bruise is present on the obverse at 4 o'clock. Several short scratches are located at the juncture of Liberty's hair and truncation of the neck. A light, vertical planchet depression is also seen in that same area that at first appears to be a scratch.
