A Hefty Modern Dragon

People's Republic gold Proof Rectangular "Year of the Dragon" 2000 Yuan (5 oz) 2012 PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC, Shenyang mint, KM-Unl., CC-1843. 64x40mm. Mintage: 2,000. Rectangular Lunar series. Although a sizable number of this issue exist in the NGC and PCGS census reports, we could find no modern auction records. It seems those who currently possess them wish to hold on to them, making the appearance of this example a fleeting and welcome opportunity. The design detail is chiseled and the weaving of raised frosted motifs with cavernous expanses is lovely to behold. Only two examples have achieved a perfect 70 (both NGC).
