Description

1805 V-1, LM-1 Half Dime, XF40
Scarce Final-Year Draped Bust Issue
Gold CAC

1805 H10C V-1, LM-1, R.4, XF40 PCGS. Gold CAC. A single die pair is responsible for the entire 15,600-piece 1805 half dime mintage. This is a nearly brilliant, lightly circulated example with fleeting tan-gold accents on predominantly brilliant, silver-white surfaces. Traces of reflectivity appear throughout the minimally marked fields. As usual, the strike weakens at Liberty's bust and also near the right (facing) wingtip on the reverse. The 1805 half dime represents the final appearance of the Heraldic Eagle reverse and the last half dime issue altogether until 1829 and the Capped Bust half dime series. Only the famous 1802 half dime is rarer than the 1805 issue in the Draped Bust series. This example displays the seldom-seen CAC gold label, indicating this coin exceeds CAC's expectations for the grade and guarantees to cross at least a numerical grade higher than stated on the existing holder. Population: 6 in 40, 16 finer. Gold CAC: 1 in 40, 0 finer (2/25).
