Large Cent Undertype
1802/0 1/2 C Reverse of 1802, C-2, B-2, R.3 -- Double Strike
with Large Cent Die Reverse -- Good 6 PCGS. Manley Die State
3.0. PCGS suggests that this piece was double struck, once with the
reverse of a large cent die, it is more likely struck on an
off-center, cut down large cent that was used during a time of
planchet shortages. Only the letter S and the dentils above are
visible from the large cent design, insufficient to attribute the
undertype. Smooth dark chocolate-brown surfaces show traces of pale
green verdigris. Our EAC grade Good 6.From The Mark Hays Collection of Half Cents.
