Description

1823/2 JR-1 Dime, MS64+
Small E's Guide Book Variety

1823/2 10C Small E's, JR-1, R.3, MS64+ PCGS. CAC. All 1823-dated dimes are overdates. Three die marriages are known, but JR-1 has its own Guide Book listing due to the small letter E punch used within UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. JR-2 and JR-3 have large Es in that legend. The present lot is the finest example of JR-1 we have had to privilege to auction in the ten years since the 2014 Gardner sale. The coin displays beautiful orange-red peripheral patina. The fields and devices are well preserved.
