Description
1972 Doubled Die Obverse Cent
MS67 Red, Just 11 Finer
1972 1C Doubled Die Obverse, FS-101, MS67 Red PCGS.
Brilliant red surfaces contain hints of pale-yellow along with
minimal abrasions. Almost all details are fully defined. This is
one of the most prominent doubled die errors in any series, and is
second only to popular varieties like the 1955 double die. John
Wexler suggested an original mintage of 75,000, compared to just
24,000 for the 1955. Above the present 1972 offering, PCGS has only
graded 10 in 67+ and one finer (9/25).Coin Index Numbers: (Variety PCGS# 38013, Base PCGS# 2950, Greysheet# 315301)
