1808/7 50C O-101, R.1, MS64+ NGC....
Description
1808/7 Bust Half Dollar, O-101, MS64+
Attractively Toned Overdate
1808/7 50C O-101, R.1, MS64+ NGC. Numerous interesting die
cracks are visible around the peripheries of both the obverse and
reverse sides of this specimen, identifying a later die stage of
the O-101 die marriage. The overdate can be easily seen with the
top and bottom of the 7 clearly visibly, a very intriguing feature
that adds to the allure of this terrific coin. This is the only
overdate of the initial master die and hub of the first design type
for the Capped Bust half dollar that lasted just two years in 1807
and 1808.An enticing palette of vivid hues adorns this superb example. On the obverse silver-gray centers with a mix of gold yield to peripheries of cobalt blue, violet, and gold. The reverse has an intense cobalt blue and gold periphery that frame glowing golden-gray centers. The strike is good for the issue, with detailed central devices, and typical weakness at the rims from a worn die. Small and sparsely scattered contact marks do not distract from the wonderful eye appeal. NGC Census: 6 in 64 (1 in 64+), 3 finer (8/25).
