Description

1785 Immune Columbia Copper, VF20
George III Obverse, W-1995

1785 PIECE Immune Columbia Piece, George III Obverse VF20 PCGS. CAC. W-1995, Low R.7. Best known on the 1787 variety with a large eagle reverse, the Immune or Immunis Columbia design was paired with several other dies. These include Nova Constellatio, New Jersey, and Vermont mules, in addition to the present rare George III variety. All were likely made circa-1787 to pass in New England commerce. This is a tan-brown piece with a flan flaw on the head of Justice and a minor flan crack at 9 o'clock. Struck on a planchet smaller the dies, as usual. The centering favors the IMMUNE COLUMBIA legend at the expense of the date, which is off the flan. Listed on page 55 of the 2016 Guide Book. Population: 1 in 20, 1 finer (6/15).

Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 835, Greysheet# 123)
