1934-D Peace Dollar, MS66+
VAM-3, Dramatic Doubled Die Obverse
1934-D $1 Doubled Die Obverse, Medium D, VAM-3, Top 50, MS66+
CACG. A Top 50 Variety. This Premium Gem Peace dollar is not
only a high-end example of the 1934-D date, it is also the leading
candidate for finest-known of the 1934-D varieties. The popular
VAM-3 Guide Book die pair features a broadly doubled profile
on Liberty's forehead and facial features, with additional doubling
at the Motto -- most visible at WE of IN GOD WE TRUST. As always
seen on VAM-3, the Medium D mintmark is filled. The similar VAM-4
variety shares the same obverse, but features the unfilled Small D
mintmark. This brilliant and lustrous MS66+ VAM-3 displays a sharp
strike and smooth, silver surfaces that show no significant marks
or abrasions. A mere hint of reddish-gold toning exists at a few
points along the rim, although this splendid 1934-D is for all
practical purposes untoned. The coin is housed in an MS66+ CACG
