Central American Republic gold 8 Escudos 1828 CR-F MS63+ NGC, San Jose mint, KM17, Fr-1, Onza-1746 (Rare), Stickney-C102. Mintage: 5,302. An immaculate Choice example struck just seven years after Costa Rica declared its independence from Spain. This type is considered to be the first gold coin produced in the young nation and is commonly encountered with an uneven strike or circulation wear; however this piece is an exception.
