Description
1881 Half Dollar, PR67+ Cameo
Recently Fresh to the Market
Original Proof Set Toning
1881 50C PR67+ Cameo PCGS. CAC. This is the sole finest
Cameo example of the 1881 proof half dollar at PCGS, if only by the
margin of the Plus designation. It is also the finest Cameo
endorsed by CAC (7/25). The coin is a remarkable time capsule,
appearing here in only its second auction appearance since being
discovered as part of an original 1881 proof set several years ago.
The set was sold as individual lots in a 2021 Stack's Bowers
auction, and the half dollar appears here alone. The coin displays
a bold peripheral strike with just minor softness in the centers on
Liberty's knees. A brilliant interior circle is surrounded by
natural mint-gold, blue, violet, and russet border toning that
frames each side. Eye appeal is outstanding, easily matching the
superb technical quality. Population: 2 in 67 (1 in 67+) Cameo, 0
finer. CAC: 1 in 67, 0 finer (7/25).Ex: ANA Auction (Stack's Bowers, 8/2021), lot 4099, from an original proof set broken up and sold as individual lots.
