Description

Exceptional MS65 1859 Gold Dollar

1859 G$1 MS65 PCGS. As noted (surely by Walter Breen) in New Netherlands 49th Auction: "The date on this dollar has wide, flat figures as seen upon the Half Dime, and totally unlike those found on the Charlotte, Dahlonega, and San Francisco coins of the year." This is a wonderful example of this scarcer early Type Three P-mint gold dollar. The mint luster is bright and frosted, and the striking details are fully brought up in all areas. The light reddish-gold surfaces do not show any mentionable defects. Population: 15 in 65, 8 finer (8/07).(Registry values: N2998)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25CL, PCGS# 7551, Greysheet# 8021)

Weight: 1.67 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
