1878 7/8TF Dollar, MS65 Deep Mirror Prooflike
VAM-36, Fully Struck and Brilliant
1878 7/8TF $1 Strong, VAM-36, MS65 Deep Mirror Prooflike
PCGS. VAM-36 has a die line from the dentils below the second
star right of the date. It also features four underlying
tailfeathers, two spikes from the lower fletchings, and die chips
near the branch of the olive leaves. According to VAMWorld, this
"is one of the more common 7 over 8 tailfeather varieties. It often
comes with DMPL surfaces." That is certainly the case here. Both
sides are thickly frosted and totally brilliant. Fully struck
devices and reflective mirrors enhance the Deep Mirror Prooflike
effect. Population (all 1878 7/8TF Strong varieties): 6 in 65 Deep
Mirror Prooflike, 0 finer (6/22).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2TXZ, Variety PCGS# 40216, Base PCGS# 97079, Greysheet# 374701)
