Dramatic Die Doubling

1867 2C Doubled Die Obverse, FS-101, MS64 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. Wide die doubling is noted on the obverse and is most obvious on the letters of IN GOD WE TRUST. The Cherrypickers' Guide notes: "This is by far the strongest doubled die known in the two-cent series." Mint State examples of this variety are infrequently encountered. A few scattered toning spots are noted on this brilliant and lustrous Choice Mint State piece that exhibits steel toning intermingled with considerable mellow red mint color. Population: 10 in 64 Red and Brown, 8 finer (2/24).
