Description

Lustrous MS66 1912 Eagle

1912 $10 MS66 PCGS. The 1912 has a large mintage of 400,000 pieces and quite a few were preserved in the lower grades of Uncirculated. However, Gem and finer examples are seldom encountered. The Dr. Steven Duckor MS67 coin brought a record-breaking $138,000 when it was sold by Heritage in April 2006. This piece is high-end for the assigned grade and exhibits a strong strike throughout with rich, frosted mint luster. The surfaces show the usual matte-like finish that is seen on all gold from this period, and the color is a deep, almost brown-gold. All of these characteristics combine to make the 1912 an appealing choice for type purposes, even though it is slightly better than the most frequently seen ten Indians. A couple of random luster scrapes are seen in the fields, and the only mentionable mark is located in the upper reverse field just to the right of the head of the eagle. Population: 7 in 66, 1 finer (11/06).
