1871 2C Repunched Date, FS-301, MS66 Red PCGS. This repunched date has minuscule doubling of the 18, moderate doubling of the 7, and heavy doubling below the final 1. There are no die cracks or clash marks on the obverse die, while the reverse has die cracks that join the tops of UNITED. the bases of STATES OF, and others through parts of AMERICA to the right stem end. This lovely example is the finest available, and exhibits brilliant and pristine light orange surfaces with frosty luster. A glass reveals microscopic marks, and a trivial dark toning spot at the tips of the lower right leaves. Population for the date: 7 in 66 Red (1 in 66+), 1 finer (3/20). Population for the variety: 2 in 66 Red, 0 finer (3/20).
