Description

Miguel I gold 2 Escudos (1/2 Peça) 1828 MS63 NGC, Lisbon mint, KM387, Fr-137. Mintage: 242. An impressive representative of this minuscule issue boasting semi-Prooflike surfaces with gleaming fields and standing as the second finest recorded by NGC after a single MS64.

Miguel I usurped the throne during Peter IV's absence (as emperor Pedro I of Brazil), leading the latter to abdicate to the Brazilian throne in 1831 to support his daughter against Miguel. This sparked the Portuguese Civil War, where Miguel ultimately lost and was exiled to Austria.
