Description
1909-O Half Eagle, AU53
Important Series Key
1909-O $5 AU53 PCGS. As the sole New Orleans Mint
representative of the Indian Head design in any denomination, the
1909-O has significance across many collecting interests and
specialties. Its low mintage of just 34,200 pieces increases the
desirability many fold. Few were numismatically preserved -- most
of the mintage circulated -- and the About Uncirculated level holds
the most opportunity for the average collector. This khaki-gold example retains glimpses of its original mint luster and, aside from the expected wear, evidence of a strong strike. The surfaces show a sparse gathering of tiny marks and light lines, but less than often seen for what is known as a heavily abraded issue. The mintmark is a bit weak but fully visible with or without a glass.(Registry values: N2998)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25ZK, PCGS# 8515, Greysheet# 9320)
