Basel. Free Imperial City gold Goldgulden ND (1439-1440) XF Details (Obverse Scratched) NGC, Fr-7, HMZ-2-49f. • SANCTA • MARIA •, Madonna with Christ as child / +MONETA • NOVA • BASILIENS', Royal orb in voided trefoil. A very rare type produced between 1439-40 and bearing the legend 'SANCTA MARIA' as opposed to Albrecht II's name. The obverse scratch is light and unobtrusive and hardly worthy of a details designation, the coin itself lightly circulated with even wear, its eye appeal otherwise strong. A Swiss rarity sure to appeal to collectors of early hammered gold.From the Allen Moretti Swiss Collection
