Description
1840-C Quarter Eagle, AU50
Sharp First Year of Issue Example
1840-C $2 1/2 AU50 NGC. Winter-1. Always popular as the
first Liberty Head quarter eagle from the Charlotte Mint, the
1840-C issue is perhaps more available than its 12,822-piece
production indicates. A single die pair produced the entire
mintage. This About Uncirculated example is a well-struck coin on a
decent planchet -- not always the case for this inaugural issue.
Plentiful mint luster remains on this rich, yellow-gold example
that displays greenish-gold accents. Scattered tiny marks are
grade-consistent and visible under a loupe.(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25GB, PCGS# 7718, Greysheet# 8333)
Weight: 4.18 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
