Description

1845 Seated Dollar, PR63 CAC
James A. Stack Pedigree
Housed in a Green Label Holder

1845 $1 PR63 PCGS. CAC. OC-P1, High R.6. Ex: James A. Stack. Osburn-Cushing Die State a/a, as always. Attractive golden-brown surfaces are surrounded by a halo of honey-gold and turquoise-blue. This coin displays all the characteristics of a well-defined proof, with all stars, the hair, and the wing feathers all clad in crisp detail. A small cluster of minor abrasions by star 10 identifies this coin for pedigree purposes. This attractive example is also housed in a Generation 3.1 green label holder, complete with a CAC sticker.

One business strike and two proof die marriages are known for the year. Of the proofs, we have documented 18 examples: 15 OC-P1s, and 3 OC-P2s. The former die marriage has a repunched 84 in the date, and the date positioning is also different between the two die marriages. Both examples use Reverse 1840 PA, with the characteristic defective second A in AMERICA. A third proof die marriage, proposed by Breen with a unique reverse, has not been located.
Ex: James A. Stack, Sr. (Stack's, 3/1995), lot 179.(Registry values: N7079)
