Description

1835 HM-1 Half Eagle, MS64
Impressive Classic Type Coin
Tied for Finest Certified, OGH Holder

1835 $5 HM-1, High R.2, MS64 PCGS. Struck from an early die state, this near-Gem HM-1 example lacks the bold die clashing seen at the centers seen on later die states. The dies clashed early and nearly two thirds of surviving HM-1 examples exhibit die clashing. This radiant lemon-gold example is struck from perfect dies. Choice fields are semireflective and show only a few faint abrasions and tiny marks. Plentiful mint luster reveals honey-gold accents at the margins. Although the HM-1 variety represents about 48% of all 1835 half eagles, it is extremely scarce at the MS64 level and rarer still in this early die state. Neither PCGS nor NGC report any finer examples. PCGS Population (all 1835 varieties combined): 13 in 64, 0 finer (11/25).
