Description

1911 Five Dollar Indian, MS65
Seldom Offered in High Grades

1911 $5 MS65 NGC. Although its mintage of 915,000 pieces might suggest otherwise, the 1911 is seldom offered in Gem condition, and it is likely the population data represents multiple submissions of the same coins. Many collectors may never have an opportunity to see an MS66 specimen, considering that only four examples have been certified as such by NGC and PCGS combined (5/22).

The present piece would suit even the most selective numismatist. Majestic satiny luster radiates beneath the delightful apricot-gold patina. The surfaces are smooth, with no detracting marks. A few areas show slight weakness, but the strike is above-average overall for the issue. An appealing example of this condition rarity.
