Description

1855-S Three Dollar Gold, AU58
Tied for Finest at CAC
Few Examples Certified Finer

1855-S $3 AU58 PCGS. CAC. The 1855-S is a challenging issue in the three dollar gold series. From a mintage of 6,600 pieces, only a handful of coins survive in Mint State, and About Uncirculated examples are rare. This CAC-endorsed near-Mint representative is nearly Condition Census-quality, and it is tied with one other as the finest endorsed by CAC. The other CAC AU58 coin is certified by NGC and last appeared in our auctions in the November 2013 New York Signature sale, where it realized $17,625. The present coin is at least as fine. The strike is razor-sharp, and the lightly abraded fields exhibit considerable reflectivity. Rich orange-gold coloration delivers excellent visual appeal. Population: 8 in 58, 2 finer. CAC: 2 in 58, 0 finer (8/16).(Registry values: N2998)
