Description

Stunning 1900 Quarter Eagle, PR64 Cameo

1900 $2 1/2 PR64 Cameo NGC. CAC. From a proof mintage of 205 pieces, the 1900 is probably the most available issue of the Liberty Head design type in proof. The date has long been a favorite with proof type collectors. The radiant devices provide dramatic contrast with the darkly mirrored fields. The strike is remarkable, with full detail on the hair above the ear and on the eagle's legs. Since the eye appeal is formidable and there are no post-strike abrasions, the grade must be limited only by a pair of curly mint-made obverse lintmarks, which are found near stars 2 and 12. Proof gold has long been regarded as "the caviar of numismatics," and the present gorgeous specimen provides further supporting evidence for such a statement.(Registry values: P1)
