1798 $1 Large Eagle, Pointed 9, Wide Date, B-12, BB-120, R.4,
AU50 PCGS. Bowers Die State V. A rare coin in this advanced die
state, with obvious die failure above the date at Liberty's
lower-most curl and drapery. A corresponding failure on the reverse
obliterates most of the field stars and some of the encircling
clouds. Multiple die cracks radiate from the edges through the date
and stars on the obverse, and a diagnostic crack curls through the
denticles above ES OF AM. The coin shows little actual wear and
smooth, unblemished fields. Lavender tones visit the iridescent
surfaces with nice remaining luster, providing excellent visual
