1850 $20 AU58 NGC....
Description
1850 Twenty Dollar Gold, Lustrous AU58
First Year of Circulating Double Eagles
1850 $20 AU58 NGC. Although authorized in 1849, only a
single 1849 double eagle exists and is in essence a pattern, struck
in "minutely higher relief." For practical purposes, the 1850
double eagle is the first year of issue for the long and revered
Liberty Head twenty dollar series. More than 1.17 million pieces
were struck in 1850. Despite the large mintage, Mint State examples
are scarce and in exceedingly high demand. For many collectors, a
high-quality near-Mint coin is ideal such as the present
orange-gold example. Reflective fields surround well-struck devices
only light abrasions are seen on either side. The eye appeal is
terrific for the date and grade.(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 268F, PCGS# 8902, Greysheet# 9785)
