Description

Ex. Hesselgesser Medallic Ducat of Empress Anna

Anna gold "Death" Jeton (Ducat) 1740 AU58 NGC, Diakov-83.3 (R3), Bitkin-423 (R1), Fr-109. 3.40gm. A fantastic example of this Death Commemoration type Medalet for Empress Anna, struck to Ducat specifications in this thrilling gold format. Due to a few unique depressions in the flan on the Empress' neck, shoulder, and face, we were able to trace this specimen back to an early offering of the Hesselgesser Collection by the Goldbergs, this auction taking place in February of 2001. The strike of this piece was strongly impressed, showing exaggerated dentilation in parts of the rim area. But perhaps the most striking feature of this rare specimen is the original caramel toning that, when combined with the ample luster still present, shimmers spectacularly in the light. This issue in gold has appeared at public auction once in the past decade, so given that level of scarcity and the fantastic condition of the piece on offer, we anticipate the bidding for this lot will be vigorous.
