Description

1878-S Quarter, MS65
Softly Frosted and Extraordinarily Clean

1878-S 25C MS65 PCGS. The 1878-S Seated quarter was struck to the extent of 140,000 coins, a meager total when one stops to consider that San Francisco in that same year struck nearly 10 million 1878-S Morgan dollars and more than 4 million Trade dollars. Most survivors of the issue are well-circulated today. This Gem is the only one in this grade at PCGS, although there are two submissions in MS66 -- possibly the same coin (2/13). This is a coin of remarkable aesthetic and technical appeal, a frosty silver-white piece, well-struck throughout and essentially mark-free.(Registry values: P4)
