Description

Republic copper Pattern 10 Pesos 1869 Mo-C VF35 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM-Pn120, Guttag-Unl., Buttrey/Hubbard-50. An exceptionally scarce off-metal Pattern of a gold denomination, examples of which are truly few and far between. Aside from this piece, we are aware of just a handful of others, including the Norweb example (Christie's November 1985, lot 365, also ex. Brand), the Gerber specimen (Spink June 1996, Lot 461 [unpictured]), a PR63+ Brown piece sold by Sedwick in 2018 (Auction 24, Lot 1207), and a single SP53 Brown at PCGS. As such, likely one of the few reasonably attainable representatives collectors with have the chance to encounter.

Privately Purchased from Richard Ponterio on August 7, 1998
