Description

1867 Cent, PR66 Red Cameo
Registry Set Quality

1867 1C PR66 Red Cameo PCGS. Snow-PR1. The 1867 is a very scarce proof in high grades, especially with bold contrast as displayed by this flashy and sharply struck PR66 Red Cameo. The fields are deeply mirrored -- obviously, the dies were polished after use in previous years. The obverse shows a thin, diagnostic die line prominently on the Indian's neck, a characteristic that is seen on all proof 1867 cents.

Streaky cherry-red coloration is seen over the attractive orange-red surfaces. This is an outstanding, high-grade example that shows noticeable contrast between the fields and devices to justify the Premium Gem Cameo designation. This piece is an important Registry candidate as there are no numerically finer Cameo examples reported at PCGS, with no Deep Cameo pieces attributed, either (9/25). Population: 6 in 66 Cameo, 0 finer (9/25).
