Description

1877 Cent, PR65 Red Cameo
Attractive and Well-Contrasted

1877 1C PR65 Red Cameo NGC. Snow-PR3. Flame-orange fields are splendidly mirrored and contrast nicely against the frosted devices on this sharply struck Gem Red Cameo proof. This piece, even under a loupe, shows no mentionable signs of contact or other distractions and is an extremely attractive example. The low-mintage 1877 is the key date in the Indian cent series as a circulation strike and is notably scarce in high grades. Proof pieces such as the present coin are more accessible, although full Red Cameo examples are decidedly rare at the Gem level. This is an ideal Registry coin. NGC Census: 3 in 65 Red Cameo, 1 finer (9/25).
