1901 1C PR68 Red NGC. Snow-PR1....
Description
1901 Indian Cent, PR68 Red
Deeply Mirrored and Vibrantly Attractive
Tied for Finest Certified
1901 1C PR68 Red NGC. Snow-PR1. The sharp eyes of Frank Van
Valen first noticed repunching at the base of 9 and 0 on what is
now known as the Snow-PR1 variety. The strike is bold on this
blazing Indian cent, which displays a full four diamonds and crisp
detail at LIBERTY. A touch of softness shows at the tops of a
couple of headdress feathers and the lowest hair curl. While some
of the feather tips, part of the ribbon, and a portion of the
highpoint hair and BERTY show pale-blue accents, all else displays
flaming, deep sunset-orange color of the most delectable
appearance. Visible carbon is absent, other than a couple of tiny
obverse flecks seen under a loupe. This example and one other piece
at NGC are tied for the finest non-Cameo proofs certified (9/25).
Housed in a well-preserved NGC Generation 4 fatty holder (without a
barcode) with an unblemished exposed hologram on the back.(Registry values: N4719)From The LaLonde Family Collection.
