High-Quality 1824 N-3 Cent
1824 1C MS62 Brown NGC. AU50 EAC. N-3, Late Die State, R.2. John Wright described this as the "Divided Date" variety, noting that it "is mildly distinctive, mildly popular, and often, but not always brings a slight premium." Perhaps eight or nine Mint State examples of this variety are known, plus a half-dozen AUs. This example is likely one of the dozen best of the variety. An inner circle on the obverse is broken at the right, representing a hyphenated circle at the dentil tips. This distinguishes the late die state examples of this variety. The surfaces have satiny luster with olive-brown color and considerable golden-tan, faded from original mint red.Ex: Russell Wyatt (Superior, 9/85), lot 484.(#1636) (Registry values: N1793)
