Description

Pedigreed 1824 N-4 Cent

1824 1C MS62 Brown NGC. MS60 EAC. N-4, Intermediate Die State, R.2. In his Condition Census, Del Bland listed this as MS60 and tied for 15th finest known. Bill Noyes graded this MS65, on one of those rare occasions when he actually considered the coin finer than NGC. In his Census, Noyes placed it in a tie for second position. Although bluntly struck on the stars, all other design detail is boldly rendered. This pleasing cent has attractive light to medium brown intermingled with splashes of steel-brown on the obverse. The reverse has delightful olive-brown color with hints of bluish toning. This is an intermediate die state example with the inner circle broken at the dentil tips, and with the obverse die cracks more extensively noticeable.
