Description

1835 JR-9 Dime, Frosty MS66
Condition Census Condition Rarity

1835 10C JR-9, R.2, MS66 PCGS. The finest 1835 Capped Bust dimes of any variety at PCGS are a half dozen MS66 coins, one of which is Plus designated (10/25). The most recent appearance of one of these coins in our auctions was another JR-9 representative, MS66 PCGS CAC, which realized $19,800 in our February 2023 Long Beach Signature. The present Premium Gem displays a sharp strike and frosty mint luster. Russet and blue-gray toning in the margins surrounds champagne interiors, with neither side exhibiting bothersome abrasions. Eye appeal is excellent.

JR-9 is one of five Script 8 die marriages for the 1835 issue, while four other die pairs are classified as Block 8 varieties. All these die marriages are plentiful, with the date's total mintage exceeding 1.4 million coins. However, any of these marriages is a rarity in MS66. PCGS Population (all varieties included): 5 in 66 (1 in 66+), 0 finer (10/25).
