Incredibly Popular Herringbone-Edge Kiangnan Dollar

Kiangnan. Kuang-hsü Dollar ND (1897) UNC Details (Edge Repaired) PCGS, Nanking mint, KM-Y145.1, L&M-210A, Kann-66ab, WS-0787, Wenchao-640 (rarity 2 stars). Variety with unconnected (1 stroke) sheng ("province"), ornamented/herringbone edge and crossbars on A's in KIANGNAN clearly visible. A cherished issue showcasing the distinctive "old Kiangnan" dragon design, and one that holds special significance as a first-year minting, highly sought after by collectors due to its rarity and generally poor state of preservation. Its composition is delightfully whimsical, skillfully balancing a variety of design elements to create one of the most recognizable types in the entire dragon Dollar series. While close inspection reveals some reworking towards the rims, the piece nonetheless retains much of its original Mint State charm and visual appeal.
