Description

1853 Arrows and Rays Half Dollar, MS66
High-Grade Single-Year Type

1853 50C Arrows and Rays, WB-101, MS66 NGC. While Arrows and Rays halves are relatively available in the better grades of About Uncirculated and lower-end Uncirculated, there are very few truly choice, upper-end Mint State examples known. All too often the pieces seen are darkly toned or show indifferent luster. This Premium Gem, however, displays thick Mint frost over finely grained surfaces that are nearly free of marks large or small. Brilliant mint luster survives beneath pale, lemon-yellow color and wisps of faint gold toning on the sharply struck obverse and reverse. This is an exceptional Arrows and Rays half -- one of the finest we have offered in recent memory -- that is well within the Condition Census as reported by PCGS or NGC. Census: 9 in 66, 0 finer (10/25).
