Description

1908-D Half Eagle, MS64
Few Known Finer

1908-D $5 MS64 NGC. The Denver Mint struck only 148,000 Indian half eagles in 1908, and this issue is much scarcer in high grade than its well-saved Philadelphia counterpart. The current Choice example is in a plentiful grade, but NGC reports merely seven submissions numerically finer (8/25). Satiny mint luster yields warm wheat-gold hues and complements a sharp strike, while minor abrasions in the fields are all that deny Gem classification. This is a pleasing coin for the grade compared to many others we have seen.(Registry values: N2998)
