Maria Feodorovna, Empress of Russia and wife of Tsar Alexander III was known for her deep involvement in philanthropic and educational causes. She played a significant role in advancing academic and cultural institutions across the Russian Empire during the late 19th century. Primarily intended as an academic honor, this medal was awarded particularly within female educational institutions-such as imperial gymnasiums, institutes for noble maidens, and higher courses for women.
