Description

1836 GR-1 Reeded Edge Half Dollar, XF40
Lovely Album-Toned Surfaces

1836 50C Reeded Edge, GR-1, R.2, XF40 PCGS. Here is a wonderfully original collector-grade 1836 Reeded Edge half with multicolor album toning on both sides -- among the first half dollars struck on the Thonnelier steam press. The small reported mintage of 1,200 pieces seems understated according to grading events, and some researchers believe the actual mintage is higher. Among Bust half collectors, the exact mintage is less important than finding a high quality example. This rainbow-toned beauty certainly qualifies as an exceptional coin for the grade. Moderate wear and small marks are grade-appropriate, and the eye appeal is terrific.
