Description

1861 50C PR63 NGC. The mirrored surfaces are vibrantly reflective and attractively toned in steel-blue and grayish-lavender shades. The strike is needle-sharp, since the Mint took extra care with its proofs in 1861 -- the second year of offering proofs at a premium cost to dealers and the general public. Many examples went unsold and were melted at year's end. This example shows a few delicate lines that account for the grade but they do not diminish the substantial eye appeal. Census: 24 in 63, 51 finer (5/16).
