Description

Elusive Gem 1911 Saint-Gaudens Twenty

1911 $20 MS65 PCGS. Even though almost 200,000 pieces were minted of this issue, there are very few high grade survivors known today. As an aside, the Saint-Gaudens series probably has the most useless mintage data in all of U.S. numismatics with the possible exception of Capped Bust Left Half Eagles. The reason both are so unreliable is the same in each case: extensive meltings, although for different reasons in each case.
Sharply defined in all areas, the surfaces of this piece are pleasing and exhibit soft, frosted, green-gold mint luster with virtually no abrasions on either side. An important P-mint condition rarity with only 33 other coins so graded by PCGS with 9 finer (11/05).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26FJ, PCGS# 9157, Greysheet# 10138)
