Description
Significant 1911 Saint-Gaudens Twenty MS66
1911 $20 MS66 PCGS. Following on the heels of the amazing Phillip H. Morse Collection of Saint-Gaudens Coinage, one could easily get the misconception that the 1911 Double Eagle is relatively available in Gem and better condition. Of course, in reality nothing could be further from the truth. Despite a mintage that is fairly substantial for early P-mint issues (197,200 pieces), the supply of high quality examples is extremely limited and MS66 representatives are as scarce as proverbial hen's teeth.Offered here is yet another incomparable Premium Gem, yet it might be months or even years before another comes up for sale. Both sides exhibit impeccable matte-like surfaces with a soft, frosted sheen, all coated in lovely reddish-orange patina. Even inspection with glass fails to reveal any appreciable blemishes. A significant find for the connoisseur of Saint-Gaudens twenties. Population: 9 in 66, 0 finer (11/05).(Registry values: N7079)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26FJ, PCGS# 9157, Greysheet# 10138)
Weight: 33.44 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
