Description

1881 Silver Dollar, MS66+
Exceptional Surface Preservation

1881 $1 MS66+ PCGS. A crisply struck and lustrous high-grade example of this underappreciated issue. The 1881 is significantly conditionally rarer than its San Francisco cousin, since fewer Mint State bags were distributed into collector hands. As of (7/19), PCGS has certified only 35 pieces as MS66+ and six finer. These numbers are much lower than correspondingly graded 1881-S or 1881-CC dollars. The latter issue has one of the lowest mintages of the series, but emerged in considerable quantity from GSA holdings.(Registry values: P4, N1793)
