Description

1874 Half Eagle, MS60
Low Mintage, Rare in Mint State

1874 $5 MS60 PCGS. The 1874 is a much better issue. The commercial mintage was a scant 3,488 pieces, along with 20 proofs. Most survivors are in lightly circulated grades. The present pumpkin-gold example has a good strike and shows fewer abrasions than anticipated for the MS60 level. Luster fills the design elements. Population: 5 in 60, 6 finer (10/22).(Registry values: P3)
