Description

1865 Three Cent Nickel, PR67+
The Finest Certified
Colorfully Toned First-Year Proof

1865 3CN JD-1, Low R.3, PR67+ PCGS. The Guide Book reported 1865 three cent nickel mintage is 500 pieces, although the Dannreuther Proof Coins reference suggests 600 pieces were struck. In any case, this is the finest non-Cameo proof reported at PCGS by virtue of its Plus designation. Colorfully toned in lemon-gold, chartreuse-green, violet, blue, and sun-gold hues, this high-end Superb Gem is a sparkling eyeful. The date is widely repunched west -- the most dramatic repunching in the three cent nickel series -- and a few deep-gray speckles are useful pedigree markers. PCGS Population: 1 in 67+, 0 finer (12/25).
