Description

1876 Twenty Cent Piece, PR65 Cameo
Brilliant and Deeply Mirrored

1876 20C PR65 Cameo NGC. A complete set of proof twenty-cent pieces consists of just four coins, one of each issue from 1875 to 1878, the last two proof-only issues. The advanced specialist may also want to include a proof 1875-S, selected from the few known pieces. The twenty cent piece, once also called the double dime, was a needless denomination in the coinage system. It was only due to Western silver interests that the variety became a reality. Congressional leaders from Nevada and other Western states were always developing new markets for the silver mine owners in their districts.

This scintillating Gem Cameo proof is entirely brilliant silver-white with exceptional contrast, on the border of an Ultra Cameo designation. The devices are frosty and bright, with deeply mirrored fields.
