Description

1879 Indian Head Cent, PR67 Red Cameo
Tied for Finest Certified

1879 1C PR67 Red Cameo PCGS. Snow-PR2. While the 1879 proofs are considerably more available from the 3,200-piece proof mintage, this issue remains rare in high proof grades -- especially at the Superb Gem Red Cameo grade. PCGS reports only two such pieces and NGC has yet to certify any PR67 Red Cameo examples. This sharply struck example displays a mixture of orange, red-gold, and olive colors over deeply reflective fields that frame richly frosted devices. We note a tiny planchet flake below the E in STATES -- a Mint-made anomaly of minor consequence in relation to the spectacular eye appeal of this riveting 1879 proof. PCGS Population: 2 in 67 Cameo, 0 finer (9/24).(Registry values: P2)
