Description
Amazing 1860-S Stars Obverse Dime, MS65
1860-S 10C MS65 PCGS Secure. CAC. The final Stars Obverse type, and the only example of the type dated 1860, resulting from slow receipt of new dies at the San Francisco Mint. Like so many Seated dimes, this issue is rare in Mint State grades, and extremely rare at the Gem level. PCGS has certified three in MS65 with none finer, while NGC has never certified an MS65, but has graded one finer coin. Two varieties are known, and the Fortin-102 variety represented here, is slightly more difficult to locate. The Fortin plate coin at seateddimevarieties.com is VF20, and even that grade is respectable for an 1860-S dime. This gorgeous Gem has full frosty mint brilliance with lustrous surfaces hosting delightful gold, russet, blue, and violet toning. The surfaces are exceptional with only a few minuscule ticks. Population: 3 in 65, 0 finer (8/10).
